How would a seven-year old describe the day when he was surprised with a trip to Florida?

“I am going to think this is the best day of my life,” said Havel second grader Jaden Thomas.

Jaden, who has Type 1 Diabetes, recently had that self-described best day ever when he was surprised with a week-long trip to Orlando, Florida.

The company Baking Memories 4 Kids honored Jaden as one of more than 60 students nationwide with severe illnesses to earn the all-expense paid trip. Jaden and his family will also have front of the line access to rides at attractions such as DisneyWorld, University Studios and Sea World.

“We want students to have the trip of their life,” said Frank Squeo, founder of the company and a cancer survivor. “Our hope is that the memories these families will create together will help then refocus, reconnect and re energize their spirits.”

Jaden was eligible for the trip after his family sent a nomination on his behalf. Going to Walt Disney World is a life’s dream for the second grader, said his mother, Stephanie Yaldo.

“He takes everything in stride,” she said.  “He is so brave.”

Jaden’s surprise announcement was made in front of his second-grade friends. Afterward, he and his friends were able to go outside to explore fire engines and military trucks, courtesy of the Sterling Heights Fire Department.
